Description of the project Hundreds of billions of linked devices, such as IoT sensors, wearables, drones, and self-driving cars, are constantly producing and processing data. The availability of appropriate computing frameworks is required to process this huge amount of data and turn it into intelligent behaviors and decision-making.
Data is naturally scattered and sensitive in most settings. Uploading massive volumes of data to the cloud puts great strain on current communication networks, causes extremely long propagation delays, and raises privacy concerns. To address this problem, edge computing is envisioned as a new paradigm in which computational capacity is shifted from the cloud to the wireless edge, where data is generated. The most promising approaches to decentralized learning at the network edge have emerged as federated learning and swarm learning.
The overall purpose of this project is to create decentralized learning and edge computing systems that are low-latency, secure, and private.
